Volunteers & Volunteering :

As a charity we rely heavily on the ongoing support and help of our volunteers, some commit to giving 1 hour every fortnight whereas others are able to give more time. We would be very pleased to hear from anyone who is interested in helping out with our work; full training and shadowing training will be provided.

Role of Befriender Volunteer

  • To provide informal social support
  • Form a trusting relationship over time to reduce isolation
  • Objectives may or may not be set i.e. increasing involvement in community / growth in confidence
  • Listening
  • Identifying any problems with digital hearing aids
  • Provide support and guidance with digital hearing aid
  • Advise clients on range of services SISG and others provide for hearing impaired people.

Code of Practice - Volunteers

  2. Need to complete Befriender Volunteer Application Form
  3. We require two written references in addition to Enhanced Disclosure Check
  4. Approval of application from management committee
  5. Attendance and participation at Befriending / Digital Hearing Aid / Deaf Awareness training day
  6. Shadowing training will be provided
  7. Attendance at two hour Refresher training Course during first year of volunteering
  8. Are required to wear photographic identity badge when visiting clients and take volunteer case which will be issued
  9. Clients require to be notified or advised when volunteer visiting
  10. Clients information is to be treated with the strictest of confidence
  11. No technical problems should be dealt with - they should be referred to Audiology Department
  12. image of listening device.Volunteers are expected to complete report forms and return them to head office quarterly to help justify our funding and travel expense claim forms should be forwarded at the end of each month.
