About us

SISG was formed in Nov 1998 following a volunteer pilot scheme within Ayr Hospital.

hearing_aid_2We have 3 staff and have 15 Sensory Stations  – Ayr (2), Cumnock, Girvan, Largs, West Kilbride, Stewarton (2), Troon, Barassie, Prestwick, Kilmaurs, Coylton, Mossblown, Maybole and 45 volunteers working in the community.

During 2018 carried out 8.073 visits to 2,514  sensory impaired 50yrs+ individuals throughout North, South and East Ayrshire.

Visits take place within:

  • 7 Care Homes
  • 7 Sheltered Housing Complexes
  • 33 Housebound Homes
  • 4 Hospitals.

People with hearing impairment will experience increased social connectedness, peer support and report reduced isolation, loneliness and will become more assertive and thereby feel empowered to manage their independence at home.
