Background - SISG (Sensory Impaired Support Group) Enterprises Ltd are a Scottish recognised charity which is limited by guarantee. It also uses "Ayrshire Hearing Support" as its working name as that best describes the work of the charity.
The charity's main objective is to help 50yrs+ hearing impaired individuals (hearing aid users) throughout North, South and East Ayrshire (Ayrshire & Arran). From its conception the aim was to provide free practical and social support services to elderly hearing aid users who struggle with the use of their hearing aid and experience associated problems i.e. isolation / diminished confidence etc.
Since November 1998 the charity has striven to improve the quality of life of increasing numbers of the 50,000 hearing aid users throughout Ayrshire & Arran
SISG (Ayrshire Hearing Support) are fortunate to have a dedicated team of committed volunteers who visit hearing impaired people every fortnight within Nursing Homes / Sheltered Housing Complexes / Hospitals and those who are Housebound. In addition the charity has three staffed Outreach Centres in Ayr, Cumnock and Girvan where people can find help and advice within their local communities.
History of SISG - SISG was formed in November 1998 following a pilot scheme within Ayr Hospital. Operation within the public domain commenced following further research in July 1999. Over the last 9 years we have developed and improved our free services to hearing impaired people throughout Ayrshire.
When the Charity started in July 1999 there were only 4 volunteers who visited only one hospital, however today that figure has reached 35 volunteers who make visits to over 200 locations |
